XM RADIO SHOW!
I’ll be hosting an hour long radio show this weekend on XM Radio’s Kids Place Live to talk about the making of my new cd, Blink of an Eye. Please join me for a whole new kind of kids radio listening experience. I used a field mic to create a city-soundscape to demonstrate fleeting, ‘blink of an eye’ sounds, invited Molly Ledford (Lunch Money) to hop on her bike and talk to us as she rides around her neighborhood, asked the album’s producer to play “What in the World is Dean Jones Playing” and invited Elizabeth Mitchell to share a story about how the light plays magic tricks with leaves on trees. This, plus TONS of funny, profound kids talking about some of the themes on the album. You can listen to a preview of the show here:https://soundcloud.com/frances-england/the-making-of-blink-of-an-eye
Hope you can check it out!

Paths We Have Worn, cd + new website
Today we are releasing my first ever ‘grown up’ album, Paths We Have Worn. About.com’s Warren Truitt says it is “delicately produced by Dean Jones, a quavering saw here, a whispering fiddle there, and, almost subliminally, touches of electronic music embedded in the fabric of the compositions…(Paths) is introspective, thoughtful, melancholy, hopeful, joyful. Beautiful.”
I’ve created a new website for Paths here where you can listen to the whole album and share the music player with friends. And for a limited time, we are offering both Paths We Have Worn + my new children’s cd, Blink of an Eye for $20 through my website shop.
Ok, thanks for everything guys – I so appreciate you helping us spread the word! xoxo frances xoxo

It’s a collection of sparkly, nostalgic, acoustic-pop songs featuring Elizabeth Mitchell, Molly Ledford of Lunch Money, Morgan Taylor of Gustafer Yellowgold, Chris Ballew of Caspar Babypants (and the Presidents of the United States of America) and is produced by the amazing Dean Jones.
Super excited to set this one free….AUGUST 6.

RADIO SHOW now available for streaming
I’m so excited to share this hour-long show that I created for XM Radio on the making of Mind of My Own. I tried my best to channel Mr. Rogers and Ira Glass, two of my favorite storytellers in the world. Over the course of an hour, I take the listeners onto the streets of San Francisco, to Haight Ashbury to interview some interesting musicians who played on the cd, and down to Ocean Beach to listen to the waves and pay homage to the great Jacques Cousteau.
I also talk about the song I sang with the Mates of State, “Place in Your Heart,” and interview a bunch of kids about toys they hold dear to their hearts – the things they say are precious and often hysterical. Finally, for the song “To Be,” I talk to parents and grandparents about lessons they have learned from their kids – the observations they make are beautiful and profound (I have a hard time listening to this with dry eyes).
The entire show is free to listen to and available for streaming anytime on your computer and iPhones / smartphones. Hope you and your kids enjoy listening to it on your next road trip or lazy Sunday afternoon! xo f xo

“This lovably off-beat songstress, who somehow makes songs about ladybugs and tea parties evoke the quirky coolness of Liz Phair or Ingrid Michaelson, has evolved as a global family favorite and critic’s darling. England’s music is consistently referred to as refreshingly “simple”- just the perfect thing when you want to enjoy the mellower side of musical family fare.” full review is here.

2011 Parent’s Choice Gold Award
We are so thrilled to receive a Parent’s Choice GOLD award for Mind of My Own!
“England is an original, an exceptionally creative and musically astute children’s artist whose unique musical vision was apparent in her 2007 debut album, “Fascinating Creatures,” which put her among other top artists in the field. With the authenticity of her alt-rock and acoustic folk rhythms, her expressive vocals and gentle, slightly offbeat approach to what it means to be a child-and a parent-England again proves that she’s the real deal.”
(wow, they really know how to make a girl feel good! thanks again, parent’s choice! )

Mind of My Own makes BABBLE’s Top 50 List
Thanks so much to Babble for naming Mind of My Own #3 on it’s Top 50 List of Best Albums for Babies — “Frances England plays charming little indie-pop songs that just happen to be for kids. These 15 no-nonsense songs drop in, deploy their hooks with precision, and are out of there before you even know what happened; no repetitive verses or instrumentation beyond what’s strictly necessary. And though they’re mostly written from a child’s point of view, England’s tunes capture the wonder and openness of the childish mind without a hint of the audience-pandering (either to kids or grown-ups) that mars much of the newer kids’ music out there.”
Congratulations to our good friends Elizabeth Mitchell, Dean Jones, Brady Rymer, Dan Zanes and everyone else on the list too – thanks, Babble!

SING ALONG song book
I read somewhere that Woodie Guthrie once said, “If you’re playing more than 3 chords on the guitar, you’re just showing off.” Oh, how I love you, Woodie! Here are a few 2, 3, and 4 chord songs of mine that are super easy to learn, play, and sing. Rock on! xo f xo
